GRANT WINNERS
CAPITAL CAUSE AWARDS GRANT TO CAPITAL PARTNERS FOR EDUCATION
“As a CPE graduate, what sticks with me today is the message of perseverance. CPE taught me how important it is to succeed in school no matter what and to take responsibility for my actions.”
-Anthonio Terrell, CPE Class of 2009 Virginia Union University Class of 2013
Amount Awarded to Capital Partners for Education: $1,000.00
Organizational Profile:
Capital Partners for Education (CPE) aims to improve the futures of low-income youth by helping them receive a quality education, graduate from high school, and attend college. The $1,000 grant that CPE received from Capital Cause will support CPE’s innovative college preparatory program, which offers students a unique combination of one-on-one mentoring, individualized academic and enrichment programming as well as scholarships for all four years of high school. CPE's students overcome numerous barriers on their path to college, including single-parent homes, severely limited family income, unsafe neighborhoods, and a lack of positive role models. CPE has proven that it can fill these gaps and enable children from Washington’s most economically disadvantaged neighborhoods to succeed in high school and beyond. Despite the many challenges they face, CPE students are earning academic distinction, giving back to their communities through service and most importantly, are becoming the first in their families to attend college. Throughout their high school career, students receive the individualized support needed to reach their potential and achieve academic success. CPE students graduate college at six times the rate of their DC public school counterparts. In our 18 year history, we have seen a remarkable 99% of students graduate high school and enroll in college.
